Multiple people called 911 shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, reporting gunshots at a Schenectady home on State Street near Grove Place, according to Schenectady Police.

When officers arrived, they found a 42-year-old man on the second floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as Leroy Chisom, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Nearly 14 hours after the killing, at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, detectives identified two suspects in a neighboring apartment in the same building.

Kevin Dingle, age 31, and Jeffrey Bashaw, age 54, both surrendered as members of the Schenectady Police Department’s Special Operations Squad were preparing to execute a search warrant on the unit.

Both men are charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. Bashaw is additionally charged with tampering with evidence.

They were taken to the Schenectady County jail to await arraignment.

Police did not speculate on a possible motive for the killing or say how the three men knew each other.
